As detailed in the April 2012 Omicron Oracle, the Edgemoor Leadership Foundation was established as an independent organization to support leadership and scholarship opportunities for today’s and tomorrow’s undergraduates. In accordance with IRS guidelines, donations to ELF may be designated for the renovation or development of educational areas of the house, including libraries and study areas, and for educational equipment. Contributions to ELF, a 501(c)(3) public charity, are deductible from income tax to the extent permitted by law.
Contributions from five-year pledges to the Campaign for Omicron Zeta will also be recognized by the Cornell University giving societies through 2016. That is, a gift to the campaign will be credited as if made directly to the university.
ELF offers flexible contribution options, including straight cash gifts by check, the donation of appreciated stock or real estate, tax-free elective gifts from IRAs, and even inherited gifts from parents’ estates. Please contact ELF more additional information about giving options.

You can fulfill your pledge and avoid capital gains tax by contributing appreciated stock directly to ELF. Unless there is no alternative, it is highly recommended for security purposes that donated stock not be issued in the “street name”, but rather transferred by wire via a broker or other custodial agent. Assuming that is the method that will be used, the information below should be all that is required to transfer stock. Once this is done, we would appreciate receiving a copy of the Letter of Instruction. That information allows us to value the stock for the donor’s tax-deductible value.
