In the Chapter
Rick Holborow, Record-setter
Richard Holborow ’85, the first blind brother to be initiated into Lambda Chi Alpha, represents the United States at the 1988 Paralympics. He is the first American finisher in the marathon, and his time of 3:03:48 remains the B1 U.S. Paralympic record.
Veg Initiated
Bill Noon '84 begins his long tenure in Ithaca, a fixture of Dunbars and The Nines, and host of margarita parties on the gazebo.
Lambda Chi-lua
Bill Stasiuk '80 O-1238 and Dave DuPont '80 O-1222 brew homemade kahlua— an instant hit with the ladies, and for the next two decades, a house tradition guarded jealously by SAC.

Fisch’s Last Homecoming
Ernst J.C. Fischer '10 O-34 attends his last Homecoming. A plaque is erected in his honor in the refectory, presented by Doc Dirghalli. He is pleased:
First of all, I want to express my sincerest thanks to the chapter for all the courtesies and favors shown me this past weekend.… Sometimes words fail one when such courtesies and honors are conferred.…
Ray Melton: Chef Extraordinaire
Ray Melton, whose mother had previously worked as a cook at Lambda Chi, is hired as a temporary cook. On his second day, he is asked to stay on permanently, which he does— until 1999.
Charter Recovered
The original charter of Omicron Zeta, which had been lost for some time, is discovered in an attic in Collegetown. It is given to Brother Jack Dodd, and installed in the Bartholomay Library.
Bartholomay Library Dedicated
The chapter library is dedicated to Bro. Ronald K. Bartholomay '74 O-1139, who was killed in an automobile accident the previous November.
Coal Furnace Retired
Edgemoor's much-hated coal-fired boiler is finally replaced with a natural gas unit.
Pledging Abolished
Lambda Chi Alpha abolishes the “pledgeship” model nationally and replaces it with the concept of “fraternity education.”
