G. Grand Staircase
The Grand Staircase will extend upstairs once more, as it did prior to the 1958 renovation.
H. Bathroom Relocated
The restoration of the Grand Staircase will necessitate the relocation of the bathroom to its earlier location on the east side of the house. The square footage of the bathroom would not change.
With the anticipated increase in the number of live-ins, the option to add a second bathroom on this floor is being explored. It would be situated directly opposite, on the west side of the house.
I. New Study/Sleeping Rooms
The construction of the southwest addition will enable two additional bedrooms to be added to the second floor. Room 20 (The Zoo) would be truncated to allow a hallway to be built. Different options for the exact layout of the rooms are being explored, as represented by the different shapes for the rooms labeled as I.
J. New Fire Stairs
Two new staircases will be added, one in the southeast corner of the house and one on the southwest. Room 29 (The Forty) would be truncated to make space. The new stairs will provide access from the upstairs floors to new fire exits opening onto walkways behind the house.
K. Reading Room Overlook
Windows will provide an overlook into the Reading Room, making the east and west hallways feel more open.
